My Engagement
My Engagement
Well for those of you who have not heard the story or perhaps
are just interested in hearing it again, this is the tale of my engagement. On Thursday
March 1, I was expecting to go out on a simple double date for dinner and just
enjoy an evening away from school, little did I know the surprise that was in
store for me. None the less, myself and Joel, along with Matt and Kiara all
went to Madison. Joel was completely calm and relaxed about everything; he even
let me pick the destinations and what we would do before dinner. First stop on
the list was antiquing, something I absolutely love! This was also a reason
that I had no suspicions whatsoever about this date, no one is going to get
engaged in an antique store. Next on the list was a lovely Indian Dinner, very
fitting if you ask me. We ate at Swagat, very good food, but perhaps a little
overpriced for Indian. After dinner we were supposed to be going for dessert
but we ended up driving quite a ways towards Madison campus and to my dismay, away
from all of the nice tasty looking ice cream shops. We finally reach our
destination….A parking lot. Joel then proceeds to tell me that we are going to
walk for a little bit, I’m thinking hopefully towards dessert. We walked down
by the frozen lake where we could get a clear view of the city lights and the
glowing capitol in the distance. Joel took a letter from his pocket and
instructed me to read it. It said how much he loved me and wanted to spend the
rest of his life with me…things I clearly already knew. When I finished, He
hugged me…. In a Heimlich sort of hold, with his fists clenched tightly behind
my back…this felt very unusual from his normal loving embrace. Little did I
know the beautiful ring he hid in the palm of his hand. He asked me, “Lindsey
Belanger, Do you love me?” “Do you want to spend the rest of your life with me?”
I answered a very fervent yes to both of those and He dropped to one knee and
pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him. I was in shock and disbelief and
finally worked up the simple answer of YES!
I cannot describe how happy I am to be marrying my best
friend. I am so thankful that God is sovereign. He brought this little boy all
the way from Kuwait to grow up into a strong Christian man and meet me and grow
in love with me, all so that He can marry me and spend the rest of his life with
me. It doesn’t get any better than that. This man is the love of my life and I am so
blessed to have him. I cannot wait to be his wife in January!
